This weekend I was reminded that we have not really shared our story on this blog.
There are lots of pieces to how we got here, but today I want to share the "why" part of the story. In the past few months I have been asked a lot of "why" questions. Why that country? Why a special needs child? Why adopt now?
For me the journey started on Sunday, July 18, 2010. At the end of service, our pastor reminded us that the song we were about to sing, I Surrender All, was a song of action, and if we were not ready to surrender all, we should not sing it.
I was convicted and could not sing the song, and so I prayed that God would show me, not what to surrender but how to surrender. That week we were introduced to Reece's Rainbow. To make a long story short... God is teaching me how to surrender, and I am definitely a work in progress.
So, the answer to all the "why" questions is simple ...God! His call was to big to ignore. For me it was not just a call to adopt, it was a call to surrender. Adopting Grady is the blessing we will receive for answering the call.
Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
I love this post from the Reece's Rainbow blog. While We Wait
Hello Coffman Family,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to let you know that just a few days after you met Grady on RR, our family saw him there for the first time. We were immediately touched by his precious face and chubby little hands and we felt an overwhelming love for him from that very first moment. Our family began to pray fervently for him, day after day, that God would rescue him, that he would know the love of a family and the love of God, that he would be able to receive the treatment he needed, and even walk. My husband and I have 7 children and they also grew to love Grady in a way that can only be explained as God's love pouring into our hearts. We did not know if God had placed him in our path to adopt him or to be prayer warriors for him, but we began to do just that, pray and ask for God's guidance. As we were praying for Grady and seeking God's will, we found out you have stepped out in faith to adopt him. We knew then that God was showing us His will and we praise God that He answered our prayers and has given Grady a family!!!! Praise the Lord. In the mean time, I wanted to introduce myself to you and let you know that the Lord is blessing you with a very precious child and we are rejoicing with you. I have a little boy 3 1/2 years old, just as old as Grady, and when I see him delight in his daddy's love, in his mommy's attention, in his siblings' games and love, I imagine what God has in store for Grady once you bring him home. We are praying that all your paperwork and finances will be blessed by the Lord and that you will meet your deadline before it closes for the year!
Your friends who love Grady and are praying for you and him,
Anabel Elliott and Family
