Garage Sale!

I am so thankful for our family and friends! We had planned on having a garage sale this weekend, but decided to postpone it one more week. Last week there were several friends and family members donating items, and we needed time to sort and prepare. Then my sister (who is a real estate agent) was selling a house, and the sellers did not want a bunch of stuff. Friday, my husband picked up 3 truck loads! What an unexpected blessing! Our garage is packed, and it has spilled out unto our covered patio. THANK YOU to our friends and family for all the donations!!!
My sister came over yesterday and helped me to start sorting, and Friday my mother-in-law is coming to help prepare. There is a lot of good stuff! I had to make some very difficult decision as we prepared for this garage sale. Giving up all of my teaching materials and 1000+ children books, and sorting through my daughter's baby clothes to decide which to sale was physically painful. I felt like the people on that T.V. show, Hoarders. My heart is still aching over it, but collecting enough funds to bring Grady home is more important than keeping a bunch of dusty "memories".

"Grady"

Boy, Born May 14, 2007

SO happy to finally have new photos of Grady! He is just as adorable as I always thought. Blonde hair and bright blue eyes! What a snuggable and happy little boy! Grady was born with arthrogryposis of his lower limbs. His hands and arms are unaffected. He is not able to walk at this time. He is 3 now, and will so greatly benefit from surgery, therapy, and loving family to encourage him! Without this, he will remain bedridden for the rest of his life.

Grady is completely typically developing cognitively. He is described as very social and smart, talkative, playful, and active. He has no cognitive delays or speech problems whatsoever.

We are so thankful to all of those who have donated towards our adoption. We are fully funded and have reached our $25,000 goal towards bringing Grady home.

Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC)

"Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) is a congenital condition that occurs 1 in every 3,000 live births. It's characterized by multiple joint contractures. Joint contractures are when the joints don't have normal range of motion, they are stiff. Affected individuals usually also have muscle weakness. Every joint in the body can be affected including the jaw & back. The range of severity is very wide, some people don't look affected while others have to rely on a powerchair for mobility. Most individuals with AMC have normal intelligence. It is a non-progressive condition. There are about 400 types of AMC. Some types are sporadic in nature while others are genetic. Amyoplasia is the most common type affecting approx. 43% of all people with the diagnosis. This is a life-long condition but with quality treatment most individuals become independent adults. Treatment often includes serial casting & splinting to increase range of motion, physical & occupational therapy to strengthen muscles & surgery to correct more rigid deformities."
